Papua New Guinea Forest Authority (PNGFA) now has a website that was officially launched by its Managing Director Mr. John Mosoro on Thursday, February 23rd, 2023 at the PNGFA Headquarters in Port Moresby.
When launching the website, the Managing Director stressed its importance saying an organization without a website is in the cave ages. He went on to emphasize the importance of Information, Communication Technology (ICT) in today’s world and expressed his concern that PNGFA did not give ICT the importance it deserved.
“If you don’t have ICT in the system, you are in the cave age. In some institutions, ICT is a priority but when I came here, I saw that PNGFA did not prioritize ICT.
“ICT is now the key and the most important part of any organization in the modern world. ICT must have highly technical people with know-how in all aspects of ICT to work here, not only sitting down and entering data,” Mr. Mosoro said.
He said as one of the country’s important economic sectors with overseas trading, it needed an ICT team with proper infrastructure to enable PNGFA to trade carbon stock in the long run, amongst others.
Mr. Mosoro went on to tell of his plan to develop the Enterprise system within PNGFA which will enable international trade, apart from the normal daily usage of ICT.
“I want to develop the Enterprise System here in PNGFA so we have the normal ICT and the Enterprise System, the latter to be used to trade. Everything will be on the website, both for the office and the Enterprise system which will merge and run parallel.
An enterprise system is one used by large organizations that has the capability to keep track of all critical areas of operation.
The Managing Director also announced a minor restructure to take place in PNGFA within the current staff ceiling. “After the website launch, there will be a minor restructure within PNGFA to include ICT as one of the key directorates or section so the launch of our website is the beginning of a new era for ICT in PNGFA.
He acknowledged the Minister for Forest Hon. Salio Waipo and the National Forest Board as he launched the website.
Mr. Mosoro also announced that ICT savvy people will have a better chance of being employed at the PNGFA.
